IMSAR LLC, the leader in the development of low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) multimode airborne radar systems, announced today a breakthrough in miniaturized sensing: the NanoSAR D Radar Electronics Assembly (REA). The REA serves as the core component of the radar system, performing the primary Radio Frequency (RF) and processing functions for every IMSAR radar system. The NanoSAR D builds on the heritage of the NanoSAR C, which is currently used across the entire line of IMSAR radars.

“The NanoSAR D represents a stepwise performance increase while simultaneously reducing the hardware form factor,” said IMSAR’s President, Mr. Larry Moore. "When I asked the engineers for their assessment of the system performance after the flight, they replied ‘it’s as good as it looks!’ We’re very happy to have achieved this significant milestone. This further solidifies our position as the low-SWaP radar market leader and gives us additional capabilities for both the UAS and manned aircraft markets. "

During its successful first flight, the NanoSAR D demonstrated the power and scalability of IMSAR’s software-defined architecture. The software performs the majority of the signal processing functions, such as pulse-generation, filtering, and detection. These improvements simultaneously increase processing speed and power while decreasing weight. Additionally, the integration of the new REA into the radar system shows how modular, scaleable, and upgradeable IMSAR radar systems are.

The successful testing of the NanoSAR D is in line with IMSAR’s forward-looking roadmap and enables the further development of two new radar systems: the 360-degree Quad Horizon radar and the versatile NSP-4 radar. This successful flight is only the latest milestone in IMSAR’s mission to democratize radar.
